Rangers make massive announcement after record ticket sales – rival fans will be furious

Rangers have confirmed plans to meet phenomenal demand for tickets ahead of Steven Gerrard’s first season in charge of the Ibrox giants by announcing thousands of new season tickets are to be made available – by slashing Celtic’s allocation when they visit by thousands and cramming them in the corner of the Broomloan Road and Sandy Jardine stands.

The Gers announced the decision on their website on Thursday evening in a move bound to delight their fans after more than 40,000 renewals were received for the 50,817-seater stadium – more than have ever signed up for renewals in the club’s history.

Celtic have traditionally been given the entire Broomloan Road stand when they visited Ibrox with the Hoops getting around 6,500 tickets but that will now be slashed to around 800.

Football Insider verdict:

Rangers fans have long called for Celtic fans to be moved from their prominent position housed in the ‘Broomie’ and have their allocation reduced significantly. With their numbers now massively reduced there will almost certainly be a reaction from the Hoops which will probably see Rangers’ allocation cut when they travel across the city. Although Celtic won’t be happy, the move will generate extra funds for the Light Blues if they sell out the additional tickets available – and after selling out every home game last season it is likely that they will. Despite how poor Rangers have been in recent years – finishing third in the last two seasons – having over 40,000 fans renew their season tickets is a phenomenal show of support from the Gers fan base. Ahead of officially taking charge next week, Steven Gerrard must be blown away by how the fans are continuing to get behind the club despite everything that’s happened recently.
