Rangers may have found ‘superstar’ in Tom Lawrence after development – McAvennie

Frank McAvennie suspects Tom Lawrence could “hit the ground running” for Rangers next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Celtic striker suggested the Gers may have found a “superstar” despite claiming that Alfredo Morelos is still the side’s best player.

Speaking to club media (20 July), Giovanni van Bronckhorst praised his new signings after a 3-1 victory over West Ham in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday.

Lawrence, 28, contributed to all three of the Glasgow club’s goals, scoring one and providing assists for the other two.

The Wales international joined Rangers on a free transfer from Derby this summer.

He put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Ibrox club.

McAvennie suggested Lawrence could be one of Rangers’ next superstars.

Some of these players on free transfers and not worth a lot of money can hit the ground running,” he told Football Insider.

They might just feel at home at Ibrox.

Rangers

They’re bringing in a lot of players and I don’t know if they’re all going to make it. I still think Morelos is their best player, I think he’s the best striker they’ve got.

The start of the season is when you’ll see how good the players are and if they want it or not. It doesn’t matter if they’re a free or £20million, the £20m player might not make it and the player on a free might be a superstar.

In other news, a pundit can’t believe Rangers could sell Glen Kamara after £7m bid update.
