Rangers miss out on Australian midfielder as he heads to Vienna – report
Rangers have apparently missed out on landing Australian midfielder James Jeggo, according to a report, after he completed a move to Sturm Graz from Austria Vienna.
The World Game claims that the Light Blues were interested in Austrian-born Australian who was part of the Socceroos Confederations Cup squad last year but is yet to make his debut for the international side.
The 26-year-old, born in Vienna, has moved across Austria with the move, and there is said to have been much interest in his capture, including from the Gers, but that the long term plans of Sturm Graz convinced him on the move.
Football Insider verdict:
This is the first Jeggo’s name has ever appeared in relation to Rangers so it is not clear how strong any interest was in the midfielder but it is interesting to see the Gers linked with talent from Down Under. There have been a few players linked with the Gers from Oz recently but none have come to fruition. Jeggo does not appear to be someone who would have immediately commanded a place in the starting XI at Ibrox and at 26 isn’t going to have been ‘one for the future’. It is unlikely anyone will lose any sleep over not signing Jeggo as Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox revolution kicks off. Having the likes of Graham Dorrans, Scott Arfield and Ross McCrorie competing for a place in midfield already means it would have been difficult for the Australian before Gerrard had even brought any new faces in so it is easy to see why the Gers haven’t made a solid move to bring him to Ibrox.
