Rangers must seal swoop for dynamo known as Turkish Messi, Warburton reportedly interested in summer

Rangers are in need of midfielders and goals in the January transfer window – and the answer to their problem lies in the West Midlands with a little-known player who is causing shockwaves in his division.

Walsall’s Erhun Oztumer has been tearing up League One in the past couple of seasons and he would be a perfect fit in the Gers squad, which is devoid of quality in attacking areas at the moment.

Graeme Murty’s current midfield options are mainly players who like to sit deeper and barely ever get on the scoresheet, but what the newly appointed Rangers manager really needs is a No 10 who can play in the spaces in and around the strikers, getting on the scoresheet and supplying assists.

Oztumer is exactly that kind of player, so it’s no wonder that he is known by the Walsall faithful as the Turkish Messi due to his low centre of gravity and match-defining ability – much like the Barcelona star.

HITC reported in the summer that Nottingham Forest boss Mark Warburton had eyes on the 26-year-old midfield dynamo, so it would be great if the Light Blues can get one over one their former manager and beat him to one of his targets.

Since then, the Turkish Messi has continued his fine goalscoring form in the Walsall midfield, netting 12 times in 27 appearances across all competitions.

The goalscoring midfielder is also susceptible to the occasional wonder goal. One of his long-distance strikes in February won the League One goal of the month award.

Rangers are missing that kind of magic from their squad at the moment. They don’t have the kind of player that can grab a game by the scruff of it’s net and step up to be the man of the moment.

Oztumer has the potential to become a real cult hero at Ibrox, and when is the last time there was one of those?

In other Rangers news, the Gers are in the running to sign this proven goalscorer in January with his contract set to expire in months.
