'Decision won't be coming from Rangers' - Exclusive: Campbell on big Ibrox transfer update

Ibrox won’t be missing any of its three star defenders any time soon if Rangers have any say in the matter.

That is according to former Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs after it was revealed by this website that Rangers are already lining up replacements for James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Borna Barisic.

The sought-after trio have been among Steven Gerrard’s standout players in 2020-21 as Rangers have maintained the most remarkable of defensive records in the Scottish Premiership – played 22, conceded five.

Campbell believes, however, that Rangers will be in no hurry to surrender their finest assets.

“No. I wouldn’t expect Rangers to be looking to sell them,” he told Football Insider.

“Because, if they win the title, they’re gonna have stopped Celtic winning ten in a row and they’re gonna wanna go on a run of their own.

“If you start getting rid of the players that got you there, how are you gonna do it again? You’re gonna have to go and try and buy some, but it’s not the same. Why fix what ain’t broken?

“If good money comes in and the player’s decided they want to leave then that’s a different story, but I don’t think the decision will be coming from the club.”

Full-backs Barisc and Tavernier have been linked to West Ham, while Everton have long been admirers of Connor Goldson’s composure at centre-back.

If outgoing transfers are inevitable, Rangers will surely be keen to delay them until at least the summer in order to avoid derailing their Scottish Premiership title bid.

In related news, Rangers could be looking to bring in an impressive EFL defender in January.
