Rangers news: Celtic man swipes at Todd Cantwell – ‘it takes a big man…’

Frank McAvennie has claimed Todd Cantwell will find it difficult to adapt to life at Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said it takes a “big player” to cope with the demands of the top teams in Scotland.

On Monday (23 January), the Gers confirmed the signing of Cantwell, 24, from Norwich City on a long-term deal.

Speaking to club media, Michael Beale said the former Norwich man is “fully aligned” to the playing style at Rangers and believes he will be a key player for the Glasgow giants in the coming seasons.

Speaking to Sky Sports (24 January), the midfielder said he can cause “damage” to other teams and believes Beale knows what he is capable of.

The former England youth international could make his debut for the Light Blues against St Johnstone on Saturday (28 January).

But McAvennie suggested Cantwell may not be ready for the pressure at Ibrox.

He was hailed as a wonderkid,” he told Football Insider.

He has not really set the heather alight down at Norwich. He might have talent and maybe Beale knows that and he will try and get that out of him.

It takes a big player to come up and deal with the demands of Celtic and Rangers.

It is a lot different from Norwich that is for sure. He will find it different up here.

Rangers

Cantwell made 19 appearances for Norwich this season before completing a move to Glasgow.

Last season the left-sided midfielder made 22 appearances for the Canaries across all competitions and scored one goal.
