Rangers news: Danny Mills issues ‘unbelievable’ Allan McGregor claim – ‘People don’t realise’

Allan McGregor can be Rangers’ number one for at least a couple of more years, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England defender claimed McGregor has “unbelievable” experience and it is now on his body to hold up if he wants to continue.

The 40-year-old, who is out of contract at Ibrox at the end of the season, started Rangers’ 2-1 win over Dundee today (20 March) after his Europa League heroics.

He made 11 saves in the Gers’ 2-1 loss to Red Star Belgrade on Thursday (17 March) as they progressed to the quarter-finals on aggregate, according to sofascore.

Asked how long McGregor can carry on for at the top, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “It will be about how his body holds up.

“Goalkeepers get battered day in, day out. People who haven’t watched goalkeepers train and seen it day in, day out have no appreciation for what they put their bodies through. They throw themselves to the ground 100 times a day and get themselves back up again. It’s relentless and it really takes its toll physically.

“Nigel Martyn played until he was 42, David James played to a good old age, David Seaman too. It all depends on his body, how the body deals with any injuries they may have.

“Mentally, he’s still sharp and he’s got unbelievable experience. As long as his body stays in a good shape there might come a point where he loses a bit of power but not for a couple of years yet.

“As long as he can manage to keep doing what he needs to do and avoids injuries, there’s no reason why he can’t keep going for another couple of years.”

In other news, Ryan Kent is now Rangers’ ‘biggest problem’.
