Rangers news: Expert hails Giovanni van Bronckhorst after what he’s seen – ‘incredible’
Noel Whelan has hailed Giovanni van Bronckhorst for “rallying round” his Rangers side ahead of their Scottish Cup final win against Hearts.
The former Aberdeen and Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, hailed the “incredible” Ibrox stars for “bouncing back” after their Europa League heartbreak just days before the Hampden Park showdown.
Rangers stars Ryan Jack and Scott Wright scored as the Glasgow giants defeated Hearts 2-0 after extra time to lift the Scottish Cup on Saturday (22 May).
Van Bronckhorst‘s side missed out on the chance to secure their first-ever Europa League trophy after losing on penalties against Eintracht Frankfurt last Wednesday (18 May).
Rangers also failed to retain the Scottish Premiership after rivals Celtic pulled out a six-point advantage at the summit.
Whelan insisted the Gers “deserved to take something away from the season” after their “incredible” European run.
He backed the Ibrox club to carry this momentum into next season and the qualifiers for the Champions League.
“It’s a great way to bounce back from that disappointment,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“They had to look forward after the Europa League final. It’s all about the manager and how active he and his staff are in making sure the players are ready.
“He had to get round them, rally them, make sure they’re physically and mentally ready. Van Bronckhorst deserves credit for that.

“They deserved to take something away from this season, because they’ve been incredible at times – especially in Europe.
“It’s nice to finish on a high and have the opportunity to take that momentum into next season.”
