Rangers news: Haaland should be feared after fitness update today – pundit

Rangers are favourites to progress past Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League but Erling Haaland may still have a big role to play.

That is the view of ex-England and Premier League defender Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider ahead of the second leg at Ibrox with Rangers 4-2 up after the first leg.

Goals from James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos, John Lundstram and a Dan-Axel Zagadou own goal secured the Gers a famous win out in Germany.

Dortmund were without star man Erling Haaland as he was forced to watch from the stands due to injury.

German outlet Ruhr Nachritchen reported on Friday (18 February), via the Daily Record, that they are rushing him back to fitness ahead of the second leg but he did not make the squad for their Bundesliga game against Borussia Monchengladbach today (20 February).

“Rangers have to be favourites,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Is Haaland going to be fit for the return leg? You saw him sat in the stands and there was a lot of caption competitions going around.

“You can almost see in his head, Haaland thinking ‘Come on lads, I gave you the opportunity to be heroes, do I really have to go and be the hero again?’

“Could Haaland score two or three? Yes, quite easily.

“Rangers have put themselves in a fantastic position. 4-1 would have been almost tie over.

“At 4-2, if Dortmund get the first goal and with no away goals, all of a sudden there’s a little bit of nervousness creeps in.

“If Haaland is fit he’ll have a real point to prove. Imagine he scores two and sets up one or scores three, it would be like wow. That could quite possibly happen.”
