Rangers news: Pundit drops ‘big’ Malik Tillman claim after £5m update

There is “no chance” Rangers will sign Malik Tillman this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie insisted Tillman has not done enough to justify his price tag.

The 21-year-old spent the 2022-23 season at Ibrox on loan from Bayern Munich in a deal that includes an option to buy for £5million.

According to German outlet Kicker (18 June), the German club have rejected the deal that was previously agreed between the sides, which could force the Gers to dig deeper into their pockets to secure Tillman’s signature.

But McAvennie insisted the Gers won’t fork out for the USA international.

There are a lot of players that have come into Rangers but they have not hit the ground running,” he told Football Insider.

They were supposed to be signing Tillman but there is no chance they will spend £5m on him.

He did not turn up in the big games. It is alright playing against the likes of Ross County and showing how good you are, but you have got to do it in the big games and he never did.

That is coming from Rangers supporters. To be worth £5m you have got to turn up in the big games, especially against Celtic.

The midfielder made 43 appearances for the Gers across all competitions this season.

Tillman scored 12 goals and provided five assists in those outings before returning to Bayern at the back end of the season after picking up an injury.
