Rangers news: Pundit issues ‘massive’ Kemar Roofe claim after confirmed news

Alex McLeish has heaped praise on Kemar Roofe after Rangers beat Aberdeen on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Scotland and Light Blues boss said the 29-year-old is the man for the occasion and has “stepped up” in big moments since arriving to Ibrox.

Roofe has struggled for game time this calendar year and has started just one league game since Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s appointment.

The forward was the hero on Saturday though, scoring the only goal of the game in a win over Aberdeen at Ibrox.

As quoted by the Herald (5 March), Van Bronckhorst hailed Roofe’s impact and suggested he would have a big role to play in coming weeks.

McLeish suspects Rangers would not have won the title last season if it was not for Roofe.

“When a new manager comes in he looks at certain players,” he told Football Insider.

“He might not like a player the way a previous manager did and that may well be the case with Roofe. It is perfectly alright.

“Roofe made a massive impact last year. If they didn’t have him, I’m not sure they would have won the title. He was the man on the spot for a lot of the really important games.

“A league can be decided by the games against your biggest rivals and Roofe has stepped up in the big games for Rangers.”

In other news, a pundit has issued a verdict on a Rangers star being ‘disrespectful’ to staff at Ibrox after a £30,000 reveal.
