Rangers news: Pundit makes ’60 per cent’ claim after Ryan Kent development pre-PSV Eindhoven

Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be desperate for Ryan Kent to return in the Champions League play-off against PSV Eindhoven.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker claimed Kent could be the “catalyst” for the Gers.

The 25-year-old was left out of the squad for Ibrox club’s 4-0 victory over St Johnstone on Saturday (13 August).

As reported by GlasgowLive (14 August), the winger was rested for the Scottish Premiership fixture ahead of the Gers’ Champions League play-off against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday (15 August).

James Sands was also absent from the game due to illness.

When asked by Football Insider if Kent would likely return against PSV Eindhoven, McAvennie said: “Ability wise Kent is the best.

“[Alfredo] Morelos is an important player for them but I think Kent’s the best player they’ve got. When he plays, Rangers play, when he’s up to his game Rangers are a better team.

I would think the manager would want him to start, I don’t think anyone doubts his ability.

Rangers

He has a tendency to come in and out of games, if he was at a big club they wouldn’t let him do that. He’s at a big club at Rangers but I think he sometimes feels he can give 60% and be a good player.

I think Gio has come in and told him he can’t do that. He’s got to get fired up for games. I think he’ll be the catalyst for everything that goes on.
