Rangers ‘on the brink’ of appointing new manager after Kevin Muscat rejection

Rangers’ search for a new manager may have come to an end just hours after it emerged Kevin Muscat would not take the job.

Muscat’s move to Rangers is “dead” after the Gers faced concerns over when the Shanghai Port boss could take charge at Ibrox.

Shanghai Port are in the midst of a title battle, and Muscat wants to stay at the club until the end of the season to seal top spot.

The blow for the club comes after top target Steven Gerrard rejected the chance to become Rangers boss, but in a dramatic turn of events there search may have suddenly ended.

Danny Rohl expected to become next Rangers manager

Rangers have taken over two weeks to appoint a permanent successor to Russell Martin after he departed following their 1-1 draw at Falkirk.

Former Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl had held talks with Rangers, and it was reported he had also rejected the job.

However, the Rangers Review, [20 October], now reveal that Rohl is ‘on the brink‘ of becoming the new manager.

Rohl may not be in place before Rangers’ trip to Brann in the Europa League, but Ibrox chiefs may want to wrap up any deal before the home match against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

Rangers fail to win first game since Russell Martin sack

Rangers’ poor early season form was pointed in the direction of Martin, and his inability to be tactically flexible and get the best out of his players.

However, the next Rangers boss may be worried by the Gers’ inability to react to his sacking with another underwhelming performance against Dundee United.

Rangers failed to build on a positive first half, and let the visitors turn the game around, with a late James Tavernier equaliser needed to rescue a point.

It means the Gers have still only won once in the Scottish Premiership this campaign, and lie a huge 13 points off league leaders Hearts.
