Rangers open door to Nedim Bajrami exit after ‘massive’ Danny Rohl twist

Rangers are open to cashing in on Nedim Bajrami in the January transfer window amid plans for a major overhaul of Danny Rohl’s first-team squad.

Rohl explained the 26-year-old’s performances both in training and as a substitute have placed him in contention for more regular minutes.

However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the attacking midfielder could be allowed to leave Ibrox if he does not earn more regular opportunities through his performances in training.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that Rangers are planning to keep Bajrami as further depth for their squad after his return to the first-team squad.

Rohl’s side are now prepared for any eventuality in the mid-season window, and while they remain keen to keep him at Ibrox, they are also open to letting him go.

Rangers could cash in on Nedim Bajrami

Bajrami looked set to leave Rangers under Russell Martin’s stewardship, and was frozen out of the squad, but has been brought in from the cold under the new boss.

The attacking midfielder impressed during his cameo performance in Rangers’ 2-1 win against Livingston and now looks set to be handed a chance to prove his worth.

However, should he fail to meet expectations, he could be left out of the side and ultimately pursue a move away in search of more regular football.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “It’s really up to Barami right now if he wants to have a future at Rangers. He’s going to have to fight for it.

“Obviously we do expect there will be massive changes at Rangers over the next couple of transfer windows under Danny Rohl. He will be looking to bring in his own players and move on players that are surplus to requirements.

“He’s got an incentive now, Bajrami, to try and stay in Danny Rohl’s plans to try and get more regular first-team action at Ibrox as well.

“For Rangers, on the flip side of that, if there is interest in Barami from elsewhere, they might look at that and see the opportunity to cash in on him because it would then maybe bolster their own transfer kitty to strengthen the squad elsewhere.

“So it’s pretty open right now for Barami. Danny Rohl has given him the opportunity to fight for his place in the side and get more regular minutes.

If he continues to do well in training then he probably will get more minutes in the first team and then the rest is up to him really.”

Rangers undergoing major changes at Ibrox

Amid suggestions that Rohl could make “massive” changes to his squad in the coming transfer windows, Rangers are undergoing a reshuffle of their recruitment team.

Kevin Thelwell was dismissed from his role as sporting director after a disappointing transfer window and an even worse start to the season amid protests from the fans.

As a result, Football Insider revealed on 30 November that Rangers have considered Barry Ferguson among the options to replace Thelwell.

However, he is considered a “surprise” option and is currently considered unlikely to take on the role despite not ruling himself out of contention.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 28 November that Rangers want an experienced sporting director to help turn around their recent fortunes.
