Rangers open talks to sign Todd Cantwell replacement – sources
Rangers are working on trying to complete an attacking midfielder signing by 1st September after Todd Cantwell submitted a transfer request, sources have told Football Insider.
Philippe Clement insists the door remains open for Cantwell to return to the Ibrox fold should he change his mind on leaving.
But Rangers sources have told Football Insider that the club will sell the former Norwich City star if their asking price is met, and they are now assessing the market for a potential replacement.
Talks are being held over multiple potential playmaker deals at the moment, but no agreement is close for the Scottish giants.
Rangers are in a difficult financial situation this summer, with the club having to sell players to provide the funds for any potential purchases.
This means Rangers need to have secured a buyer for Cantwell before completing the signing of a replacement.
Rangers losing Todd Cantwell will create a hole
Philippe Clement is aiming to get Rangers back to winning ways next season as he hopes to push Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership.
However, losing Cantwell will impact the squad if a suitable replacement cannot be found.
The 26-year-old played 44 times in all competitions last season, scoring eight goals while providing seven assists.

Rangers have offloaded several players already this summer, with Sam Lammers being the latest to leave Ibrox.
The striker has joined FC Twente, while an announcement of Connor Goldson’s departure is also expected imminently.
In other news, Rangers tell Jose Cifuentes to find a new club.
