Rangers plan to land early-window deals revealed after £35m twist – sources
Rangers will prioritise cheaper deals in the early part of the upcoming summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Philippe Clement’s side lost 2-1 away at Celtic in the latest twist in Scotland’s title race on Saturday (11 May), meaning the Hoops need just one point to win the trophy.
If they finish second in the table, Rangers must progress through the Champions League qualifiers to reach the league phase and bank what Football Insider sources understand will be a £35million windfall.
It is believed the Gers have drawn up two transfer shortlists ahead of the summer window opening – one with Champions League qualification, and one without.
Clement’s side are set to enter the third qualifying round starting on 6/7 August, with second legs coming a week later and a two-legged playoff starting on 20/21 August.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Rangers will prioritise cheaper signings until their Champions League fate is decided.
Rangers to focus on bargain deals until Champions League fate discovered
The Gers entered the qualifying process this season but failed at the final hurdle with a 7-3 playoff loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Rangers were dropped into the Europa League and made it to the Round of 16 before losing against Benfica.
Next season’s Champions League will see each league phase club play eight games between September and January before the knockout stage starts in February.

Celtic are on course to win the Scottish Premiership title this term but have not made the competition’s knockout stages since 2013.
Nevertheless, it has been reported that they will bank a guaranteed £35million from playing in the league phase – a windfall Rangers can also access if they secure qualification.
