Senior player was preferred to Ross McCrorie in central defence and really should have done more at Motherwell’s second goal instead of just standing off.
Looked lost at times and struggled to do even the simplest things right.
With Alves hoping to secure a place on Portugal’s flight to Russia for this summer’s World Cup in Russia the 36-year-old needs to start playing like an international defender rather than looking out his depth against the likes of Motherwell.
Could easily find himself on the bench when the Gers face Dundee next week.
