Rangers player ratings v Hibernian: Senior star 4/10 in woeful defeat
COMMENT
Rangers looked to make up ground on Celtic after the Hoops’ surprise 1-0 defeat at Kilmarnock earlier in the day but were humbled 2-1 at home by Hibernian for the second time this season.
The Ibrox side made six changes to the side which faced Highland League minnows Fraserburgh on Wednesday with Wes Foderingham, James Tavernier, Russell Martin, Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy and Alfredo Morelos all coming back into the starting XI at the expense of Jak Alnwick, Lee Hodson, Fabio Cardoso, Andy Halliday, Niko Kranjcar and Jason Cummings.
Neither side could take control in a frenetic first-half with both sides having chances at goal before Hibs took the lead through John McGinn with four minutes left in the first 45.
Daniel Candeias lost possession near the halfway line before McGinn drove forward then unleashed a low shot beyond Foderingham.
After going a goal down, the Gers started the second-half much better and had a few really good chances shortly after the break to level the score but couldn’t beat Marciano in the Hibs goal.
The Gers though they had a lifeline after 75 minutes when Sean Goss fired in a fantastic free-kick only for James Tavernier to give away a penalty minutes later to allow Hibs to go 2-1 up.
The Ibrox side continued to push forward in hope of drawing level with Hibs but couldn’t find an equaliser.
