Rangers player ratings vs Hearts – 8/10 shines, 2/10 is disgraceful
Rangers ended their 2023-24 league campaign with late heartbreak after drawing 3-3 with Hearts on Saturday afternoon (18 May).
Philippe Clement’s side kicked off at Tynecastle knowing that the result would not impact the league table, and they went behind early on to Ibrox-linked Lawrence Shankland.
Goals from Ross McCausland, Todd Cantwell and Fabio Silva overturned the deficit and gave the travelling Rangers fans something to cheer, but Dexter Lebikisa and Kyosuke Tagawa scored late on to draw the hosts level.
PLAYER RATINGS
Jack Butland [4]
The English shot-stopper has been a standout performer for Rangers this season, but he had a day to forget at Tynecastle. Ended the match with just one save.
James Tavernier [2]

Lazy and unfocused. The Rangers captain set incredibly poor standards for the rest of his team by losing possession far too easily and being caught out of position for Shankland’s opener. Unforgivably lost possession 21 times.
Leon King [4]
King’s return to the first team has not quite gone to plan. He was underwhelming at Tynecastle, with Shankland getting the better of him on several occasions. Ended the match having won zero of his three aerial duels.
Ben Davies [5]
Davies ended the match having won 100 percent of both his ground and aerial duels. However, he continues to look nervy with the ball at his feet and his distribution into midfield was poor at times.
Robbie Fraser [6]
After a promising cameo performance off the bench vs Dundee, Fraser was trusted in the starting lineup here and the 21-year-old started his full debut brightly. However, he was caught out defensively too often and was fading out of the match before being replaced on the hour mark.
Mohamed Diomande [6]

A well-balanced performance from the 22-year-old. Diomande carried the ball well and looked sharp when he drifted wide and linked up with McCausland. Boasted a 90 percent pass completion rate before being taken off on the hour mark.
Nicolas Raskin [5]
A combative performance from the midfielder. Raskin was involved in 10 ground duels throughout the match – but won just four of them. He protected the ball well in possession but looked afraid to take a risk when passing forward.
Ross McCausland [8]
Simply sublime. Rangers fans will be outraged that he has not started more often. McCausland was a constant threat off the right and a nuisance for the Hearts backline. He capped off a magnificent performance with a fine left-footed finish shortly after the break.
Todd Cantwell [7]

After a poor start which saw his misplaced pass lead to the opener, Cantwell looked rejuvenated in the second half and was a creative outlet for the visitors. Capped his second-half masterclass off with his eighth goal of the season.
Scott Wright [6]
Outshone by McCausland on the opposite flank, but Wright still offered a threat down the left. Ended the match with three key passes and an 88 percent pass completion rate.
Cyriel Dessers [3]

While Shankland was clinical for the hosts – Dessers was anything but. The 29-year-old squandered a handful of huge chances for the visitors and Rangers fans were evidently running out of patience with him in the away section.
SUBSTITUTES
Ridvan Yilmaz [4] – Brought on to add some experience to the Rangers back line instead of Fraser, but Yilmaz looked equally as uncomfortable on the back foot as the academy star.
Kieran Dowell [6] – Injected some energy and composure into the Gers midfield after replacing Diomande. Put in some crucial tackles as Rangers held on to their lead late on.
Fabio Silva [7] – Wasted no time in getting involved in the match after replacing Scott Wright and scored the vital third goal for Rangers to end his league campaign on a high.
