Rangers pull plug on two January signings as Kyogo forces U-turn – Celtic man
Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers won’t make any signings in January after failing to win the Glasgow derby.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker suggested that the Gers would have signed several players if they had beaten the Hoops in the derby and closed the gap to their rivals.
According to Dutch outlet Nieuwsblad Sport, as relayed by the Daily Record (4 January), the Light Blues are keen on Royal Antwerp defender William Pacho.
The 21-year-old’s contract runs until 2027 and it is expected Antwerp would be looking for a bumper fee to offload the Ecuador international.
Speaking to Sky Sports (6 January), Michael Beale said he has spoken to at least two players who are keen to join the Glasgow club “sooner rather than later”.
But McAvennie has claimed that failing to close the gap to the Hoops last week has put the Ibrox side off any January additions.
“If Kyogo [Furuhashi] never scored that goal Rangers would have bought a couple of players,” he told Football Insider.
“If they beat Celtic and it was down to six points, the league would have been back on and they would have bought to challenge. I do not think there is any chance now.

“So they are going to be spending money knowing they are not going to win the league. I can’t see Celtic dropping points. I think that will put a big dampener on what they were going to spend.
“If they had got the three points they might have spent a bit more to go and try to win the league.“
