English club tables bid for Rangers mainstay, response is emphatic – Sky Sports

Rangers have emphatically rejected a second bid for in-demand attacker Josh Windass, according to a report.

Sky Sports Scotland reported on their official Twitter account on Friday that the Gers have rejected a bid from English Championship side Preston North End for the 23-year-old, who Football Insider exclusively revealed was also the subject of a rejected £200,000 bid from Wigan Athletic.

The Rangers attacker, who is a mainstay for the first-team, has hit a rich vein of form recently with five goals since the end of October after being pushed into a more central position in the Gers front line.

Windass joined Rangers from Accrington Stanley with Matt Crooks in the summer of 2016 but struggled to make an impact until very recently.

Since moving to Ibrox, Windass has made 50 appearances and scored seven times for the Light Blues.

The 23-year-old missed the win over Motherwell in midweek through suspension but is expected to return to the starting XI when the Gers take on Old Firm rivals Celtic on Saturday.

Football Insider verdict

Windass has been far from a key player for the Gers since making his move to Ibrox in the summer of 2016 but if the fees mentioned so far are indicative of how clubs value the former Accrington star, then Rangers would be better holding on to him for the time being. If someone can meet the Ibrox side’s value for Windass though, he should be on the first car, train or plane to wherever he needs to be after promising lots but delivering on very little of it. Despite being flavour of the month with some Rangers fans, once Windass’ form returns to it’s usual level there won’t be many complaints if the attacker is sold next month.
