Rangers respond to Tottenham’s interest in Nicolas Raskin

Rangers are are already making plans for the January transfer window ahead of the arrival of their next manager following Russell Martin’s sack.

Football Insider revealed on 16 October that Rangers are close to an agreement with Kevin Muscat to become their next boss after a drawn-out process at Ibrox.

In the meantime, the recruitment team are eyeing areas for potential improvement despite criticism of sporting director Kevin Thelwell, and plan to bolster their squad.

However, Rangers remain at risk of losing some of their star players as a result of the chaos both on and off the pitch after their dismal start to the season.

One of those is Nicolas Raskin, whose future at Ibrox remains uncertain as a result of the level of interest in his signature which has been building since the summer.

Rangers plan to keep Nicolas Raskin amid Tottenham interest

Football Insider revealed on 13 September that Raskin could quit Rangers in January, with an exit looking certain while he was cast aside at Ibrox.

However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Rangers have no plans to let the midfielder leave in January given his importance to the team and their dismal start to the season so far.

The Belgium international has recently returned to the starting XI following a reported bust-up with Martin, but that has not put an end to the speculation.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “There’s no surprise that he’s attracting interest. There was interest in the summer on him, but Rangers managed to keep hold of him.

“I don’t imagine they’d be willing to sell in January, they’re planning to keep Raskin around and they’re going to need him if they are going to turn around their fortunes.

“I don’t expect there will be any move for him in the January window, he’s under contract until 2027.

“There is Premier League interest in him, there’s interest from other European leagues as well.

“I think there’ll be a big summer ahead for Rangers and if Raskin doesn’t see any improvement maybe with Rangers, then the player himself could be tempted by a move away.”

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed last month that Raskin’s impressive performances could concern Rangers as they are attracting interest in his signature.

Raskin could be tempted to leave Rangers for the Premier League

Football Insider revealed on 17 October that Raskin could be tempted to leave Rangers amid growing interest from Premier League clubs including Tottenham.

Premier League interest in the Belgium international is not new, as Leeds considered a move for Raskin during the summer, although nothing materialised.

European giants including Porto and Napoli were also keeping a close eye on the midfielder amid suggestions he could have his head turned by the interest.

Meanwhile, former Man United chief scout told Football Insider that Premier League clubs want to sign Raskin and have been keeping tabs on his performances.

However, Rangers are extremely reluctant to see last season’s Player of the Season leave as they aim to turn around their recent fortunes under a new boss.
