Rangers revolution starts as Gerrard reportedly sets transfer mission for star tipped for Celtic
COMMENT
In years gone by, there would have been little doubt that if Celtic were in for a player during the transfer window, then Rangers would not have been far behind.
The Scottish giants were fighting it out out on an even battlefield, with the reign over their rivals swinging to and fro across Glasgow season after season.
In present day though, the story is different, and the Gers are playing catch up to the Hoops after their rise from the ashes, the Bhoys pushing on to dominate the whole of Scotland.
The money that Celtic can offer is incomparable to any other side north of the border, meaning that the likes of Rangers have to spend savvy and bring in talent on a modest budget which can at least compete in the battle to finish second.
However, times may well be changing at Ibrox, and it is all thanks to the arrival of Steven Gerrard.
While an immediate revolution might be premature, there is certainly excitement building for the Liverpool legend’s arrival, and it looks as though he has kicked off his regime before he has even arrived.
The Daily Record claim that Gerrard has already sent scouts out to watch over Hibernian midfielder John McGinn ahead of a potential transfer move, with the Daily Mail claiming that Celtic have also been in the hunt for the 23-year-old.
With Tam McManus tipping the Hoops to swoop for the Hibs star this summer, Rangers’ arrival on the scene shows that the Light Blues are starting to try and muscle in on their rivals’ territory once again.
Big changes are needed at Ibrox to ever hit the heights of their prime, but challenging Celtic for their targets is a good start, and the signal fire that the revolution under Gerrard is underway.
In other Rangers news, the Gers have a 20-year-old who is the shining light for the club’s revolution.
