Rangers senior star on verge of comeback, return v Celtic on the cards

Graeme Murty has confirmed that Rangers captain Lee Wallace could be fit for the upcoming Old Firm derby against Celtic at Parkhead on Saturday.

The Gers’ senior star has been out of action since September, but Murty believes that he isn’t far away from making a first-team return and a role in the all-Glasgow clash at the weekend is on the cards.

“Hopefully it will be soon. He’s another one that we are assessing day by day” the permanent boss at Ibrox said, as quoted by the Evening Times.

“His numbers are looking good. We just need to make sure that he will be ready to go.

“Possibly [he could come back against Celtic]. But, like I did with Bruno (Alves) against Kilmarnock, we have to make sure that we have a fully fit squad, that we don’t injure the players, and that they are ready to go.”

The return of such a senior player would certainly be a huge boost to a Gers squad which is struggling with both injury and confidence issues.

Before the Old Firm derby, Rangers are in action against Mothewell at Fir Park, as they aim to keep on Aberdeen’s trail in the battle for second place in the Scottish Premiership table.

The game is the third so far this season between the Gers and the Steelmen, and first that Graeme Murty will be in charge for.

The first match saw the Gers win 2-1 at Fir Park on the opening day of the season thanks to two Graham Dorrans goals, whilst the second saw Motherwell win 2-0 in a very controversial Betfred Cup semi-final.

Murty will be hoping for his first win as permanent Rangers boss, as his first game in charge saw the Gers slump to a deserved 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
