Rangers hope to appoint senior man within next 24 hours – confirmed
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has confirmed that the club are looking to appoint a new assistant manager before Saturday’s Old Firm match with Celtic.
Murty is”hopeful” that a new senior man would be in position within the next 24 hours, as quoted by the Herald.
“That is ongoing,” he said. “We are hopeful of having that done soon…but that is not in my hands at the moment.”
The Englishman has been helped in his duties as boss at Ibrox by first team coach Jonatan Johansson, who was originally appointed by former boss Pedro Caixinha, who was sacked in October after a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock.
Murty takes his Rangers team to the East End of Glasgow on the back of a 2-0 win over Motherwell, a result which kept them three points behind Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership table but still 11 points behind Celtic.
He was in charge of the Gers last season when they managed to pull off a 1-1 draw at Celtic Park thanks to a late Clint Hill equaliser, in his final match as interim manager before the appointment of Pedro Caixinha.
The Englishman is in charge at Ibrox until the end of the season following the failure to tempt Derek McInnes away from Aberdeen, and has presided over a series of indifferent results such as two wins over Aberdeen but defeats to the likes of Hamilton and Dundee.
