Rangers set sights on beating Celtic to England-based ace in January – Ibrox Exclusive

Rangers have set their sights on Stoke City striker Tyrese Campbell ahead of the January window, Football Insider has learned.

The Glasgow giants have joined the race for the England Under-20 forward amid doubts over his future at the English Championship club.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Rangers are closely monitoring Campbell’s situation and are ready to push Celtic in the battle to land him for a cut-price fee.

Campbell has emerged on to the radar of director of football Ross Wilson as he is a rising star and out of contract next summer.

Rangers believe they could win the race for the England Under-20 international in a similar way to how they recruited Joe Aribo during the summer.

The midfielder was hunted by suitors in the Premier League, across Europe as well as Celtic, but Steven Gerrard convinced him to move to Ibrox when his Charlton Athletic contract expired.

There is the possibility Campbell could move next month rather than wait until he is a free agent in July.

He is not a regular for Stoke, making four Championship starts among 17 appearances in all competitions this summer.

Campbell has scored three goals this season after netting five times in 15 appearances while on loan at Shrewsbury last campaign.

One advantage Rangers and Celtic have over English clubs is they can take advantage of cross-border rules by paying a maximum of £300,000 of compensation to Stoke next summer.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have opened preliminary talks on signing Premier League player in January.
