‘Rangers set sights on last-minute deals after £9m confirmed news’
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed he expects Rangers to move for new faces after securing more Europa League prize money.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the recent upturn in form is down to manager Philippe Clement.
Rangers confirmed direct qualification to the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday night (30 January) with a 2-1 home win over Union Saint-Gilloise.
The Glasgow giants have already banked £9million in prize money for their exploits in Europe this term, with a further £2.1million due if they make it to the quarter-final.
Clement’s side have made just one signing so far in this window, adding centre-back Rafael Fernandes on loan.
Wyness expects Rangers to be active before transfer deadline
When asked if Rangers could be active before the deadline now their Europa League fate is confirmed, Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think they may well do.
“The results and performances recently have given Clement breathing space.
“They’ve managed to turn things around, Dessers and Igamane have hit some form and started banging in the goals.
“They’ve given themselves the luxury of being able to wait until they know whether they’ve got the European money.

“I think they will now be one of the last shoppers in this window, thanks to Clement.
“I’m glad they stuck with him.”
