Rangers set to make £600,000 bid for attacker this week – report
By Derek Smithson
Rangers are set to make an improved bid for Hearts attacker Jamie Walker this week, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claim that the Gers have already see a £500,000 bid turned down by their Scottish Premiership rivals for the winger.
It is understood that Pedro Caixinha’s side will make a final move for the 24-year-old this week to try bring him to Ibrox.
The report details that Rangers will submit a new improved £600,000 bid for Walker and are not prepared to match Hearts’ £1million valuation.
Walker has just one year remaining on his contract with Hearts and will be available to leave on a free transfer next summer as it stands.
The left winger was a standout performer at Tynecastle last season and that has seen him tipped to play for Scotland in the future.
He made 43 appearances across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and supplying seven assists in return.
Walker has now racked up 164 appearances for Hearts and is experienced in the Scottish top flight, something that Rangers are now looking to harness.
Football Insider verdict:
Rangers should just match the £1million valuation of Walker if they truly believe in his talents and improve the wide options in their squad. Caixinha is yet to really replace Barrie McKay following his departure to Nottingham Forest and needs a tricky winger to offer some flair. Walker has proven himself in the Scottish league during the past couple of seasons and was in superb form last year. The attacker can play anywhere across the frontline and could be a real asset at Ibrox. Rangers should bring Walker in to compete alongside the likes of Niko Kranjcar, Kenny Miller and Dalcio for a starting position.
