Why Rangers should sign this PL winning defender who is available for free

By Danny Wright

Pedro Caixinha wants men in his Rangers squad next season, which makes it even more surprising that he didn’t offer Clint Hill a new Ibrox deal.

There will be a massive void to fill over the summer due to the former QPR man’s departure and the perfect replacement lies south of the boarder in the East Midlands.

Marcin Wasilewksi will soon be available for free as his contract at Leicester comes to and end within a matter of weeks.

A statement on the Foxes’ official website asserts that the centre-back will leave the King Power Stadium having played a part in helping them secure a surprise win of the 2015/16 Premier League title as he held his ground in a 3-1 win over Everton prior to being handed the trophy.

The 36-year-old is the right kind of player that Caixinha needs and would be a perfect fit for the aggressiveness and directness of Scottish Premiership football.

He’s a seasoned pro and a seasoned winner and shouldn’t put a huge dent in Gers’ transfer and wage budget.

Wasilewksi, a 60-times Poland international, is no stranger to winning major honours with four Belgian league titles to his name from his six-year long spell at Anderlecht.

The big enforcer isn’t someone that strikers would like to play against because of his merciless attitude towards defending and although he isn’t the paciest of players, Hill proved that it isn’t a defining factor for centre-backs to be judged on.

Rangers have to sign a lot of players in the summer to either improve on what they already have or fill spaces left by the outgoing cast.

Wasilewksi would be a great way for Caixinha to show to fans that he knows how to pick the right player.
