Rangers slammed over latest Australia trip twist – ‘if that’s true it’s crazy’, says pundit
Rangers must engage with their fans instead of releasing scathing statements about recent protests.
That’s according to former Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after protests from Gers fans on and off the pitch.
On 19 March, kick-off against Dundee was delayed and the game was stopped several times thanks to protests from the travelling Rangers fans.
They were protesting the club’s decision to take part in the Sydney Cup tournament in November, in which they will face Celtic.
McAvennie insists the only party benefitting from this disruption is Celtic and called for the rangers board to open talks with fans instead of releasing statements
“The board need to engage with the fans,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“That’s the only way this will get fixed. Statements aren’t going to help anybody.
“This thing is going ahead, that’s as clear as day. Apparently, Rangers are going to earn more money for this trip to Australia than they do in a full season of games up here.
“That’s what I’ve read in the papers. If that’s true, firstly, it’s crazy, secondly, there is no way that game gets called off.
“Rangers need that money. Celtic need the money as well, it has to be said.
“So this needs to be resolved one way or another. There needs to be conversations because there can’t be this disruption until the end of the season.
“That will only help Celtic and I’m sure Rangers fans don’t want that.”

The Daily Record reported on 17 March that Rangers are now considering “aborting” their plans to play the friendly fixture after a backlash from fans.
The report also claims the Gers will receive a seven-figure fine if they pull out.
In other news, pundit claims Ibrox hero is the “biggest problem” at Rangers now.
