Rangers have smashed it, best Scottish club in January window by country mile

COMMENT
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has embarked on a huge overhaul of his Ibrox squad by bringing in six new faces in January and tying down Declan John to a permanent deal after initially signing on a season-long loan.
Russell Martin, Jamie Murphy, Sean Goss, Jason Cummings, Greg Docherty and Glenn Middleton all arrived at Ibrox this month Murty and director of football Mark Allen enjoyed the best transfer window of any Scottish side by a country mile.
The new signings all add quality to a Rangers squad that was lacking any real game-changing players and adds depth to provide new options for Murty – both tactically and selection-wise.
With only Carlos Pena and Danny Wilson leaving the club last month from the first-team, Murty has also kept hold of prized assets like Alfredo Morelos and Josh Windass despite bids coming in.
Since Murty’s appointment in October, the Light Blues have looked tougher to break down and shown far more resilience than was ever on display under Pedro Caixinha.
The addition of proven performers like Cummings, Murphy, Martin and Docherty should minimise any risk of them turning out as flops like may of Caixinha’s and predecessor Mark Warburton’s did.
There are still areas which need improved – back up for James Tavernier for example – but the Ibrox giants look to have hit the target with their business in January and will now be hoping to get the rewards on the pitch.
