‘The boy was clever’ – Rangers star launches defence after being pranked by Celtic fan

Rangers star Fabio Cardoso has tried to save face after a video was posted showing him saying “mon the Celtic” while out in Newcastle – but it’s only seemed to make things worse for the defender.

The video prank, posted by a Celtic fan has already left Rangers fans less than impressed with Cardoso and his attempt at defending himself won’t have gone down well either, although it should be noted that English is Cardoso’s second language.

The 23-year-old joined Rangers from Vitoria Setubal in the summer but has barely featured since breaking his nose in the Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat by Motherwell and requiring surgery.

“The video is cut,” Cardoso said on his personal Twitter account in a now deleted post, as shown by the Daily Record.

“The boy was clever but it still did not work. You have to try again!

“The whole sentence I said in this video was ‘Celtic be ready we are coming’.”

The defender was a mainstay in the side under Pedro Caixinha but has only managed 45 minutes under Graeme Murty since Caixinha’s sacking on October 26th.

Cardoso has made 15 appearances so far this season for the Gers after his £1.3million summer move.

Cardoso’s injury has allowed Danny Wilson to come into the side and win a regular place after impressing over recent weeks and it was Wilson who Cardoso replaced during the win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie which has given the 23-year-old his only appearance under Murty so far.

The former Benfica youngster wasn’t even named among the substitutes for Saturday’s 3-1 Ibrox defeat at the hands of Tommy Wright’s St. Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership.

In other Rangers news, Jim Duffy has urged the Gers to appoint this 59-year-old as soon as possible.
