Rangers star must learn to walk away from criticism after getting dragged into Twitter row
COMMENT
Rangers star Josh Windass hit back on Twitter after a fan questioned his attitude and work-rate, but the 24-year-old needs to learn to walk away from social media sometimes and avoid getting dragged into rows with fans.
After a fan originally replied to a tweet from the club’s official account congratulating Windass on winning February’s Scottish Premiership player of the month, the 17-goal star responded directly before deleting the tweet, which was later printed in the Scottish Sun.
While the player has every right to give some back after taking stick from the fan, it is a fairly harmless comment and represents the feelings of many fans given the former Accrington star’s performances.
The 24-year-old quickly deleted the tweet but it is something that comes with the territory of playing for Rangers that fans will have high – sometimes impossibly high – expectations and will always voice their displeasure when those expectations aren’t met.
Windass’ performances this season have been much improved after being moved further forward but sometimes leaves fans scratching their head with how inconsistent he can be at times.
Some of the stuff aimed at players on social media is nothing short of downright vile but that’s certainly not something that can be said of the comment that seems to have irked Windass.
It was a harmless comment echoing the feelings of many Rangers fans who have watched Windass disappear once too often this season and unless he can find some sort of consistency, will be something he’ll continue to hear.
