‘I would have no problem’ – Rangers 27-year-old makes stunning exit admission
Rangers midfielder Carlos Pena has stunningly admitted he would have “no problem” exiting Ibrox for a return to Mexico just six months after swapping Guadalajara for Govan.
Pena signed a three-year contract when he joined the Ibrox giants from Chivas in the summer but has struggled to make any real impact in Scotland despite his relatively hefty price tag.
The Mexican has made 12 appearances and scored five times for the Light Blues but hasn’t been able to nail down a regular first-team place under Pedro Caixinha or Graeme Murty.
The 27-year-old revealed that he “hopes” to see out his deal in Glasgow but wouldn’t rule out a return to Mexico.
“I am concentrating on Rangers and I hope to complete my three-year contract,” Pena told MARCA, as translated by the Daily Record.
“I have my contract and we will see what happens. But I would have no problem returning to Mexico with my family.
“As with any team, my mindset is to be as successful as I possibly can be and to do things right.
Pena has won 19 caps for the Mexican national team but hasn’t been involved with El Tri since being an unused substitute for two World Cup qualifiers in September 2016.
The midfielder – nicknamed Gullit – could find himself involved in Wednesday night’s clash with Motherwell at Ibrox thanks to Josh Windass’ suspension ruling him out of the game.
Pena was now-former Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha’s biggest signing of the summer and cost the Gers £2.7million from Chivas Guadalajara.
In other Rangers news, three Gers players could play their final games for the club against Celtic this week.
