Bruno Alves: This is what Rangers players must do to recapture winning form

Rangers defender Bruno Alves insists his Ibrox team-mates need to learn to cope with the pressure of playing for a big club if they are to improve their results.

The Gers have struggled at home this season and have already lost to Hibernian, Celtic, Hamilton and St. Johnstone at Ibrox while only losing once away from home.

The Light Blues had recorded four consecutive win before they faced Tommy Wright’s side on Saturday and had pushed themselves into second place on the Scottish Premiership.

Alves insists his team-mates need to be able to deal with the expectations at such a big club and earn “better results.”

“We need to know how to handle the pressure because the pressure will always be there for the big teams,” Alves said, as quoted by the Evening Times.

“If we know how to handle the pressure better, we can have better results.

“Sometimes we need to have more patience with the ball.

“Sometimes it is not the best way to play fast.”

The defeat to St. Johnstone saw Graeme Murty’s side slip to third in the table – five points behind leaders Celtic and three behind second-placed Aberdeen.

The Light Blues return to action on Saturday when they take on Kilmarnock and the Ibrox giants will be desperate to pick up three points with on Old Firm derby rapidly approaching.

Alves joined the Gers in the summer from Serie A side Cagliari and has been a mainstay in the Ibrox starting XI this season.

The veteran defender has struggled to meet expectations since his move and has been overshadowed by the likes of Ross McCrorie and Danny Wilson beside him at the heart of Rangers’ defence.

In other Rangers news, Jim Duffy has urged the Gers to appoint this 59-year-old as soon as possible.
