Rangers star responds on Twitter to headline suggesting he may need to quit Ibrox

Rangers star Wes Foderingham has laughed off a headline claiming he may need to quit Ibrox to fulfil his ambitions of playing for England.

The Gers shot-stopper has been involved with his country up to Under-19 level but hasn’t been involved with the senior side.

After the Daily Record claimed Foderingham had “accepted” his England hopes might never happen while he is at Ibrox, the Gers number one took to Twitter to dismiss the claim.

“Ha! I see what you are trying here,” Foderingham said on his personal Twitter account, quoting the Sunday Mail’s headline.

Foderingham has made 128 appearances for the Gers since his move from Swindon in 2015 and signed a new contract in September to keep him at Ibrox until 2020.

With the likes of Nick Pope, Jordan Pickford, Joe Hart and Jack Butland fighting it out for a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, Foderingham admitted, as quoted by the Sunday Mail, that he would need to be playing Champions League football if he is to force his way into the international set-up.

Football Insider verdict:

Foderingham has a bit to go before he’s likely to be considered for a place in the England squad, although playing in Scotland will make it much harder regardless of his performances. It’s good to see the Gers keeper correcting the report that his dream won’t happen at Ibrox – unlikely as it is – after manipulating the 27-year-old’s words. As long as Foderingham continues to perform for the Gers consistently, he will be doing everything he can to attract Gareth Southgate’s attention.
