Murty favourite signs deal to all but complete Rangers exit – report
Rangers defender Danny Wilson has signed for Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids, according to a report.
ESPN claim Wilson has become Rapids’ eighth signing of the winter – pending approval of Wilson’s visa – as new head coach Anthony Hudson rebuilds the side which finished second bottom in last season’s campaign.
The 26-year-old was out of contract at Ibrox in the summer and has decided to make the switch to Colorado and continue his career stateside.
Wilson had emerged as a real favourite of Graeme Murty in the past few months, after the English manager gave the Scotland international the chance to play more first-team football following Pedro Caixinha’s sacking.
The deal that sees the ex-Hearts and Liverpool defender exit Ibrox is now all but done, with him just awaiting his US visa to make his switch official.
Football Insider verdict
Losing Wilson will be a big blow for Rangers going into the second-half of the season after the defender impressed following his return to the side under Murty. Wilson’s departure will open up an opportunity for the likes of David Bates or Fabio Cardoso but it would have been good to see the 26-year-old hang around and complete his contract. With the possibility of going and playing against stars like Bastian Schweinsteiger, David Villa, Seba Giovinco and Gio dos Santos, Wilson’s decision to head across the Atlantic is pretty understandable as his Ibrox contract ran down. The most galling part for Rangers fans will be Wilson making the decision to leave – for a second time – just as he establishes himself in the first-team.
