Sources: Doncaster Rovers make move to sign Rangers starlet Ross McCausland

Doncaster Rovers have set their sights on signing Rangers midfielder Ross McCausland, sources have told Football Insider.

The Scottish giants are willing to loan out the 19-year-old, who made his first-team debut in the final game of last season against Hearts.

Doncaster have registered their interest in taking McCausland on loan for the new season.

McCausland signed a new deal last term to keep him at Rangers until 2024.

McCausland recently played and scored in a trial friendly for De Graafschap against Willem II ahead of a possible loan switch, although the Dutch side ultimately did not take up the option.

He has since returned to Glasgow and has turned out for Rangers’ B team in preparation for 2022-23.

The Northern Ireland Under-21s midfielder set up the final goal of the match with a cross to fellow debutant Cole McKinnon on his debut in the 3-1 win over Hearts in May.

McCausland spent the majority of that campaign with the youth side, for whom he scored three times in 10 appearances.

McCausland has been deployed as both a left and a right winger.

Doncaster finished 22nd in League One last term, two points from safety.

Rangers

They have signed seven players on permanent deals in total during the current window, while one more has joined on loan.

McCausland meanwhile could join 20-year-old midfielder Ben Williamson and 22-year-old centre-back Lewis Mayo in leaving Rangers on loan this summer.
