Rangers stars expecting new signings after Steven Davis reveal – pundit

Noel Whelan has insisted the senior Rangers stars will be expecting new signings through the door this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aberdeen suggested the likes of Steven Davis and Connor Goldson will want “fresh faces” after committing their futures to the club.

Rangers confirmed (31 May) that Davis, 37, has signed a one-year extension at Ibrox, with his old terms running out this summer.

They also announced (1 June) that Goldson has penned a four-year deal after much speculation over his future.

Whelan suggested the duo will now look for Rangers to strengthen the squad with new additions this summer.

“You’re always looking to see what comes next and I think you’re always looking to strengthen,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“I think it’s highly important that you run the club the right way. What they’re doing now is rewarding the players with the contracts they deserve. Giving it to the right people in the right areas of the football club on the field and off the field.

“But I don’t think you’re ever going to settle for that. You need fresh faces because that keeps everybody alive and on their toes as well. Even your more experienced players.

“They like to see new faces come in, they like to see people challenging for their position. It brings the best out of them as well. It gives you a nice optimism going into the start of the season when you’ve got some new faces and quality in the team.”

Rangers

Rangers already have one new face through the door in the shape of John Souttar.

The centre-back signed a pre-contract deal back in January to join on a free transfer.

In other news, Rangers have made a move to sign an England-based full-back.
