Rangers stars set for stern words as details emerge pre-Celtic – pundit

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will sit his Rangers players down after their wasteful display against Braga on Thursday (14 April), according to Noel Whelan.

The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Ibrox club will have to be “ruthless” in order to beat Celtic in tomorrow’s (17 April) Scottish Cup semi-final.

Despite their 3-2 aggregate win over Braga after extra time, Rangers managed to direct just five shots on target from 31 total efforts.

As per FBRef, the Gers registered 6.1 expected goals during the Europa League quarter-final tie.

Whelan claimed the sheer volume of chances created is a “positive” for the Glasgow giants.

However, he insisted the Rangers boss will be far from pleased with his side’s lack of cutting edge.

“I don’t think Van Bronckhorst will be impressed with that,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“When you look at the ratio of chances created to goals scored against Braga, it should have been easier for Rangers on the night.

“At the same time, there are positives – they are creating a lot of chances.

“But in the lead up to the Celtic game, Van Bronckhorst will be sitting his players down to try and make sure more of those opportunities lead to a shot on goal.

“You’ve got to be ruthless in these games, and Sunday is a perfect opportunity for Rangers to show they can be.”
