Rangers striker set for surprise Ibrox reprieve despite lack of game-time – report
Rangers striker Joe Dodoo is set to stay at Ibrox, according to a report, after winning a stunning reprieve under new manager Steven Gerrard.
According to Ghana Football, Dodoo will be given a “second chance” under Gerrard to prove his worth at Ibrox after falling well down the pecking order under Pedro Caixinha.
After spending the first-half of last season on loan at Charlton, Dodoo spent the remainder of the campaign struggling to force his way into the side under Caixinha’s replacement, Graeme Murty.
The former Leicester striker has two years remaining on his Ibrox deal after penning a four-year deal when he moved north in 2016.
Football Insider verdict:
Dodoo being given a second chance to prove himself at Ibrox is a massive surprise after the striker failed to make an impact at the Gers or out on loan at Charlton last season. After glimpses of his ability in the first-team in his debut season with the Light Blues, Dodoo looked a shadow of that last season and most were expecting him to be near the top of any list of Ibrox departures this summer. With Gerrard taking charge from Friday, he could still make a decision to let the striker move on and it wouldn’t be a huge shock to see him depart – regardless of this report – as Gerrard gets a bit more familiar with the players at his disposal. For whatever reason, Dodoo’s move to Scotland hasn’t worked out and it would likely be best for both parties to go their separate ways ahead of the new campaign and free up some funds for Gerrard while letting Dodoo try to force his way into the side elsewhere and get on with his career rather than spending it sitting in the stands.
