Rangers summer signing shares what was frustrating for him following move
By Harvey Byrne
Rangers summer signing Bruno Alves has said that he was left frustrated at not being at the club for their Europa League clash against Progres Niederkorn.
The 35-year-old, who completed a move to Ibrox in May was unable to feature in Europe for the Gers due to being given an extended leave by the club following his appearances in the Confederations Cup for country Portugal this summer.
The Glasgow giants ended up being knocked out in the first round of qualifying by the Luxembourg-based side in a humiliating 2-1 aggregate defeat and it is thought that a player of Alves’ experience in the back line could have had an effect on the overall result.
Now, after finally joining up with his new teammates on Monday Alves has said in a press conference on Thursday, as quoted by the official Twitter account that he was frustrated by the fact that he couldn’t play in the Europa League for the club.
However, he has assured fans that he would have still joined the club if there wasn’t the draw of European football.
Alves is one of nine players to have made the switch to Ibrox this summer and, alongside Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack, his name is one of the most well known of the additions.
His fine career has seen him lift the 2016 European Championships trophy with Portugal alongside winning both the Russian and Turkish top-flight with Zenit Saint-Petersburg and Fenerbahce respectively.
In other Rangers news, Barrie McKay has told that his decision to quit the Gers was an easy one.
