Rangers takeover news ‘coming very soon’ after ‘overseas talks’ – Keith Wyness
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed news on a potential takeover at Rangers could come “very soon” after “talks with overseas investors”.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted now is the time for the Gers to move away from fan ownership.
Rangers are currently owned by a group of investors, including Dave King, Douglas Park and current chairman John Bennett.
Fan group Club 1872 also own almost 5% of the Ibrox club.
The Gers have won just one Scottish Premiership title in the last 13 years, with rivals Celtic establishing dominance in Glasgow.
Rangers should now welcome overseas takeover, says Wyness
Wyness claimed an overseas investor is the right person to “reorganise the club properly” after a lack of recent success.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think it’s a fairly strong likelihood that we will see something coming very soon on a potential takeover.
“I know from my sources there have been talks with overseas investors.
“The problem with Rangers, and this is my own view, is that it tends to be fans interested in buying the club.
“Right now, I think it needs a breather from rich fan ownership.
“It needs a genuine football investor to come in and reorganise the club properly without having to be involved in the passionate history.
“Someone should come in from the outside and do this, rather than have an existing fan who dreamed of owning the club.
“They need the chance to rebuild.

“There will be chances for fans to be involved, of course.
“I know one of the potential investors is indeed that kind of operator. I think it’s what the club needs.”
