Rangers team news: Massive double boost ahead of trip to Hamilton
By Richard Parks
Defensive duo Bruno Alves and Declan John have given Rangers a massive double boost ahead of their Scottish Premiership trip to Hamilton on Friday night.
Left-back John revealed at a media conference on Wednesday that he has returned to training and “hopeful” of being passed fit for the short journey to the Accies.
The on-loan Cardiff ace was sidelined for last weekend’s Old Firm derby after sustaining an injury on his full debut in the Scottish League Cup triumph at Partick Thistle eight days ago.
Manager Pedro Caixinha then revealed that defensive kingpin Bruno Alves is on the road to recovery after missing the defeat to to Celtic with a calf injury.
The Portugese explained, as also quoted by the official Rangers Twitter account, that his countryman “is much better” and in contention to play against Hamilton.
John and Alves joined skipper Lee Wallace, who is sidelined for up to two months with a groin injury, among the walking wounded last weekend.
Lee Hodson came in at left-back and teenager Ross McCrorie replaced Alves as Fabio Cardoso’s partner in the centre of defence.
Rangers will be looking to bounce back from their Old Firm loss against Hamilton and the possible return of Alves and John would increase their chances of getting a result.
Euro 2016 winner Alves is regarded by many as the best signing Caixinha has made since taking charge at Ibrox after his impressive showings in Rangers’ first six league matches of the campaign.
In other Rangers news, Celtic icon Chris Sutton crucified this Light Blues player for his decision ahead of the Old Firm clash.
