‘Join the dots’ – King delivers Rangers threat to Warburton over Nottingham Forest move

By Danny Wright

Rangers chief Dave King has said that he is exploring Rangers’ legal options over Nottingham Forest’s appointment of Mark Warburton.

The new Forest boss left Ibrox in controversial circumstances in February.

King admitted that “it’s a possibility” that he will look for compensation from the club or his ex-management team after Warburton joined the City Ground in mid-March.

David Weir and Frank McParland also quit Gers to become a part of the set-up at the East Midlands clubs.

The Rangers chairman is not happy that his club received no compensation for the ex-Brentford boss whose contract had two-and-a-half years left on it when he left.

“It certainly appears to me that what you have got now is an engineered outcome, to the benefit of Nottingham Forest,” said King, as quoted by the Nottingham Post.

“They have all ended up at Nottingham Forest without us getting compensation – and we’ve had to pay compensation [for new Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha]. That’s exactly where I didn’t want to be.

“They resigned, we accepted the resignation, they then decided to un-resign.

“We said you can’t un-resign, and they have all ended up at Nottingham Forest. I think one can join the dots quite clearly.

“I’m now going to have a legal discussion. On the face of it, whether it’s Forest or the management team, it’s a possibility.”

Caixinha was installed as Warburton’s successor in the vacant Ibrox hot-seat earlier in March and has since won his first game in charge of the club in a 4-0 thrashing of Hamilton last week.

Warburton began his time in charge at the City Ground when he helped Forest earn a last gasp draw with fierce rivals Derby County in a 2-2 draw.

In other Rangers news, Alex Rae has said he was blown away by Caixinha’s plans to end Celtic’s dominance.
