Rangers tipped for ‘huge’ transfer boost as Auchenhowie plans revealed – McLeish

Alex McLeish has suggested Rangers could give a “huge” to boost their transfer prospects with plans to ramp up the “infrastructure” of the club.

The former Gers boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted things like training ground facilities can have a “massive” impact in luring players to the club.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Monday (14 February), Rangers’ managing director Stewart Robertson revealed plans for development at both Ibrox and the club’s Auchenhowie training centre.

The Gers chief outlined proposals for “a second hybrid pitch and a second pitch with undersoil heating” at the training ground.

He claimed winning the league would help bankroll those plans, as well as help expand the academy and women’s teams.

McLeish suggested improving the club’s facilities would inspire players and convince potential new recruits to sign.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Infrastructure within the club is massive.

“It is huge, especially for buying new players and enticing new players to come. They see the facilities the club has.

“Back in the day when I took the job, it was unbelievable when I saw the Rangers facilities. I had been training with clubs who were training in public parks.

“We then started to get into universities and things like that, to use their playing fields.

“Rangers was a world-class unit when I went there. It was one of the things I mentioned to the players in the dressing room during my introduction. I said: ‘Look, we have got world-class facilities here.’

“There is no way you can’t come in every morning and not be inspired by this. That is what I am saying a nutshell. If they can improve these facilities at Rangers even more, these guys will be like: ‘Phwoar, this is incredible.’

“It just gives you that wee bit of feeling that you’re at a really big institution. It should inspire you to be as big as you can.”

Rangers

Rangers currently sit second in the Premiership table, a point behind Celtic.

They face Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League knockout playoffs tonight (17 February).
