Rangers tipped to finalise Arfield deal after major development – pundit

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will want to tie Scott Arfield down to a new Rangers contract “as soon as he can”, according to Paul Robinson.

The former England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 33-year-old has got “so much more to give” for the Gers.

Arfield’s Rangers contract is set to expire at the end of this season, bringing an end to the Canada international’s four-year stay at the club.

Speaking to Sky Sports (10 December), the midfielder is keen to stay at Rangers, insisting he is “happy” at Ibrox.

Arfield can speak to other clubs about a free transfer when the transfer window opens on 1 January.

Robinson claimed the 33-year-old has got the “talent” to play in a free role for the Scottish giants.

“I think Scott can play anywhere across that Rangers midfield,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“He’s very good on the right in a more disciplined role – but he’s also got the talent to play in that free player in the middle of the park.

“He has still got so much more to give. He’s got a very creative mind and he can score goals.

“I think he’ll show that between now and the end of the season. Van Bronckhorst will be looking to tie him down to a new contract as soon as he can – he’s playing really well at the moment.”

Arfield has started four of the last five league games for Rangers.

The midfielder has scored 31 goals in 162 games since joining the Gers in 2018.
