Rangers chiefs are planning to lift Ryan Kent into the top bracket of earners at the club as new contract talks are readied, Football Insider has learned.
This site broke the news yesterday that the Ibrox giants are keen to reward the winger, 23, with a new and improved contract that reflects his status in the team.
Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Rangers chiefs are willing to put Kent in line with their top earners like Alfredo Morelos, Jermain Defoe, Scott Arfield and James Tavernier.
He penned a four-year deal worth around £20,000-a-week when he signed permanently from Liverpool last year for around £7million.
The new package is set to be beyond the £28,000-a-week mark, which is the base line for the top player salaries at Ibrox.
Morelos and Tavernier have steadily increased their pay with salary rises during their stays in Glasgow, while Defoe and Arfield benefited from joining on free transfers and were able to negotiate top-dollar deals.
Rangers top brass are aware that their title hopes could hinge on keeping Kent happy and motivated.
He has been in outstanding form in the new campaign started and has supplanted Morelos as the biggest matchwinner in Steven Gerrard’s side.
Football Insider exclusively revealed last month that Kent has a £20million release clause in his contract.
That opened the door to a new bid from Leeds after they had an earlier £10m offer knocked back but Kent was keen to remain in Glasgow.
Former Liverpool star Kent has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals and supplying five assists.
