Sources: Rangers to let Barjonas go after two moves collapse at eleventh hour

Rangers midfielder Jamie Barjonas is looking for a new club after learning he will not get a new deal, Football Insider has been told.

The Light Blues academy product, 22, is out of contract at the end of this month and is deemed surplus to requirements.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Barjonas has been told he is not going to be offered a new deal and is free to find a new club.

The writing has been on the wall for some time for the versatile midfielder and he had been close to securing permanent moves in each of the last two windows.

Barjonas was in advanced talks to join second-tier US club Orange County in February but the deal fell through at the eleventh hour.

The Leeds-born Scot had also come close to joining English League Two side Barrow last summer but that also could not be finalised.

Barjonas ended up joining Championship outfit Ayr United on a short-term loan in March but that has now come to an end.

The versatile midfielder has failed to build on an impressive start to his Rangers career that once suggested he could become an established first teamer.

He broke into the Light Blues side when he was 18 and has nine first-team appearances under his belt for the club.

But the Scotland Under-19 international has struggled to make any headway during the far more competitive Steven Gerrard era.

He spent the second half of the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Partick Thistle, where he made five appearances before the season was cut short.

Barjonas has previous loan experience in England for Bury and also had a spell at Raith Rovers when they were in Scottish League One.

In other news, a Rangers TV pundit has tipped the club “to accept offer” from Premier League club for POTY contender.
