Maguire shares Rangers prize money reveal after ’55 secured
Rangers will receive only a paltry sum for winning the Scottish Premiership this season as Covid has affected the prize money pot.
That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after Rangers secured their first title in a decade on Sunday.
Rangers remain in the lucrative Europa League and this site revealed that they have pocketed £8million from their exploits in the competition so far.
Celtic crashed out at the group stage and banked just £3.7m but there will be less disparity between the pair’s prize money in the Scottish Premiership, claims Maguire.
The spreadsheet expert revealed that prize money would be minimal but that this is insignificant compared to the distinction of knocking Celtic off their perch.
“The additional prize money for finishing 1st as opposed to 2nd is insignificant,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“The additional money, we’re talking perhaps £50,000 or £100,000. We’re not quite sure because the numbers are being changed because of Covid.
“This is all about 55, this is all about the glory, this is all about the route back from the fourth-tier.
“But the important thing is the opportunity to be in the playoff phase for the Champions League for next season. That’s the most important thing for Rangers.”
Rangers remain unbeaten in the league having dropped just eight points and conceded just nine goals all season.
Fans will be hopeful of piling on further misery for Celtic when the two face each other at Celtic Park on 21 March.
In other news, a top pundit has revealed the one reason Gerrard might consider quitting Rangers and it has nothing to do with Liverpool.
